Advice For Consumer During Airline Strikes

13 Jan, 2010

Strikes are terrible news for people planning to go home or travel, especially during holiday. When a person is planning to travel, check with the airlines regarding the strike before leaving. Make sure not to waste time if the flights are cancelled or delayed.

Passengers are recommended to get refunds. Not all flights will be affected by the strike as other airlines are taking the measures to offer passengers flights for the cancelled flights to help with their travel plans.

Consumers that have booked their tickets before the strike was announced, should be covered by travel insurance while the flights booked after that date are possibly not covered under the standard policies. Passengers need to check with their insurance providers to find out if they are covered.

When a passenger used a credit card to purchase the tickets, they should be able to file a claim for refund under Section 75 of the Consumer Act of 1974.

Hopefully, this short article will have provided the advice you need as a consumer during airline strikes that are becoming more frequent. Strikes are terrible news for people planning to go home or travel, especially during holiday.

The Package Holiday Regulations may also apply when there is an airline strike. These regulations which impose a liability on the tour operator for any failure to adequately perform any aspect of the package holiday contract including the flight. This means that the tour operator takes the responsibility for flights and everything else whatever the circumstances. It is important to remember and as the name suggests “package holiday regulations”, this law only applies to holidays booked as a package and consumers who book travel and accommodation separately do not have this protection. So in summary if your flight is part of package and there is a strike it is not your problem but the tour operator’s problem and they should make alternative arrangements for you.
